Romance, it is said, always begins as a 'state of mind'. It is as much about the feeling of “being romantic” as taking action on those feelings. Therefore, romance is a state of being and is present in our sub conscious mind. At some point of time, however, it must move beyond mere thoughts and intentions. Your romance needs to be communicated to your lover through words, actions, gifts, gestures, or just a tender look. This makes all the difference, as it is a culmination of the original romantic state of mind. This is especially true if the recipient of your romantic actions or your lover reciprocates the feelings in a similar vein. When the spirits of a man and a woman intertwine, romance takes shape. The communication of feelings in a relationship helps in kindling romance. Poets believe that it is difficult for an intellectual or a violent person to understand and experience romance. An intellectual person cannot understand romance because it cannot be labeled, discussed or explained. A violent person cannot understand romance because it cannot be conquered or acquired. Romance is a feeling that exists exclusively in the domain of the heart.
To people living in an earlier century, romance was perceptible in the sight of clouds drifting across the blue sky, in the ripples of wind on water and in the face of the full moon. In our complicated and hectic modern existence, romance as represented in fairytale movies, seem far fetched though they serve as an escapism. Romance in the 21st century has not only evolved but has also had a major revamp. Prada and platinum have replaced simple romantic gestures. Youth trends are moving towards wealth and materialism, which are the new symbolism for romance. In keeping with this trend, there is an entire industry that is dedicated to helping people express their romantic gestures.
Gift manufacturers, greeting card companies, book publishers and luxury cruise liners are a few of the industries that have capitalized on the spirit of romance to sell their products. In a world where communicating with our loved ones is turning out to be a challenge, to express dormant feelings of romance is a plight made easy by these organizations.
