Marriage tips - Will separating save a marriage?
When ever you or your partner need your own space in a marriage it may be a good idea to separate for a few weeks. But wont this be damaging to my marriage you may ask? Well the answer is no, but only if it is done right. In a relationship, you can sometimes get too used to the other person being there for you that you don't realise what you have until it's gone. That is the philosophy behind human feelings. If you take something so valuable away, then it is natural for you to miss it. When your loved one is absent in your life, you begin to realise what you were taking for granted and truly appreciate them. Sometimes the only way of realizing this is to separate for a few weeks.
Once you are away from your husband or wife, do not completely ignore them. Call or email them and send messages about your status so they know you are still thinking of them. The aim here is not to be too in-your-face, but to simply show that you do care, even when you are not in each others presence. That being said, do not withdraw too much as your partner may feel you have forgotten about them or just don't care. It is necessary you find the right balance - every second day over the three week period would work well. Also remember before you hang up the phone or close your email, say the three magic words; "I love you".
While you are away, take notice of the things you realise are missing in your life. Realise the things you took for granted in your lover are no longer there. Write down the things about your partner that you miss and construct a list. Reflect on it and look at it regularly. You will notice that the magnet of love is attracting you both back towards each other again as you realise how much you miss them.
When you return home, it is important you bring back a gift that is something really special. A gift that your partner will truly like will show that you do care and are committed to keeping a happy marriage. Tell them how much you missed them when you were away and do it with eye contact as this will show that you mean it. When you notice the missing pieces in your life return, show gratitude and appreciation and things will repair. Taking a break may be the change you need in your relationship. It could just be the thing for the both of you to polish up your marriage.
