All relationships go through a tumultuous phase, which actually starts when the couple feels so comfortable with each other that they forget to cherish what they have. For many married couples, boredom and familiarity is the root cause of estrangement. The lack of communication becomes the underlying effect of contempt; and everything else that was once good becomes lost.
The first thing that couples notice when they are drifting apart is the lack of sex. Since they can no longer converse with each other, their physical needs are no longer communicated. Physical attachment becomes severed and most say that this is actually the doom of their relationship. This leads one or both to stray and look elsewhere for contentment.
However, there are those who beg to differ and have said that marriage is 99% communication and 1%; and that the end of the relationship started when light conversation was lost and the emotional bond was disconnected. The physical needs of a couple were extinguished because they no longer felt that they could share such a special act with each other.
Most marriage counselors will advise couples to open up and tell each other what caused the drift. In this exchange, the couple is given a chance to communicate with each other under the supervision of a professional. With the help of a mediator, the conversation is controlled and steered towards the right direction – which is for couples to hear out and understand each other more clearly.
To add some spice into the relationship, couples are advised to try out something new by themselves, and sometimes with the kids. Adventure comes with good and bad consequences, so it's not really advisable that a couple go off on their own they have not been able to work out their communication problem. There are times though, when going on a vacation makes a couple feel closer, especially when they go back to the places they once visited.
When the lines of communication are once again open, couples will no longer feel fear or embarrassment when it comes to talking about their physical needs. The bond that got them together in the first place should be rekindled through sex, not the other way around. Some couples think that by having more sex, their problems will be solved; but that is not true. This will only create a bigger gap in the relationship which may result in total separation.
The time will come when everything seems to be okay, but the bedroom is as quiet as ever. The silence might come from the suppressed sexual desires, and this is where some new technology comes in handy. Sex toys are a favorite amongst couples who would like to try out something new to make their physical union more enjoyable. It also adds a bit of adventure to what they have come to know as boring sex. Having sex toys around is not taboo; it was created so that man and woman are given a chance to feel that earth shaking, mind blowing experience that they only read in books.
