Engagement Rings are something that girls dream about almost from the time they are born. Little girls grow up dreaming of the perfect wedding and the perfect dress and the perfect husband. They all want to live their own Cinderella story and have their own prince charming. It has been that way and will continue to be that way and a very huge part of the wedding experience is the ring that shows that you are betrothed to another and have found your "prince charming".

Diamonds, as you know, are the traditional stone of choice for the wedding engagement ring. Though the style of the ring its self have changed the meaning and traditionalism has not changed at all.

When a man pops the question it is tradition that he get down on bended knee and open the ring box and hold it up to his beloved while asking her to marry him. It is the moment that the girl’s dream of and the boys dread. What if she rejects my proposal? This is generally an unfounded fear though since if you two know each other well enough to consider it, you should have a good idea of the outcome.

So what should you do when picking out a ring to use to pop the question? That is the subject of much debate and one that we do not have the room to cover here.

You certainly need to start by finding a reputable jeweler. They will help you find the stone and setting that best fits your needs and will find the ring that works inside your budget. They should also help you to alleviate some of the fear and trepidation of the event by assuring you that if it is not just what she wants it can be exchanged for the right setting or style.

You are looking at a lifetime here so don’t be too cheap when selecting the perfect symbol of your love. By the same token you don’t want to spend so much on the ring that you can’t afford to get married. Again, this is where a good jeweler will assist you in making the right choice.

The traditional styles that your parents had with one solitaire diamond and the gold band is not necessarily what you may want. Today it is perfectly acceptable for you to have several smaller diamonds on the band to accent the center stone. The idea here is that the engagement ring that you pick out should be a combination of what you can afford and be one that will show off the elegance of the occasion and still allow your personalities to shine through so that everyone knows it was just for her.

It is even possible and has become more popular to buy the "traditional" setting to use when asking her to marry you so you get the spontaneity and then returning to the jeweler and allowing your bride to be to aid in the design of her special ring.
