Sometimes it helps to spice up your wedding by trying something out of the ordinary to make it memorable and etched in the minds of your guests for a long time to come. There are many ways to skin a cat as the saying goes. Likewise, there are many ways to hold your wedding without messing up the basic rituals that go with it. You do not have to have it like someone else hag theirs. It being your day experiment and explore ways to make it stand out and elevate the event into its own league.

There are many wedding cultures in the world that you can choose to borrow from and make your big day really special. You can choose to go Indian, Native American, Spanish or Oriental. But the one that really kills it is an Irish wedding. Irish tradition and culture is very rich and drawing from it will make it a wedding that people will talk about for a long time. The ideal starting point for an Irish wedding is careful study of the tradition so that you can make it perfect. And you do not even have to be Irish descent. If convenient, you can consider having the wedding on St Patrick’s Day, who is the patron saint of Ireland.

If you are into superstitions, there are times of the year that the Irish don’t marry so you might want to take that into account as well. And one thing that runs through Irish tradition is their association with the color green. So a touch of green here and there might help bring out the whole theme. The decorations could also have that green weaved with shamrock designs because as the maple is synonymous with Canada, so is the shamrock with Ireland. Have a chef who is well conversant with Irish food and delicacies to complete the Irish theme.

By all means go full length by having the groom and his groomsmen wear kilts. This traditional Celtic garment is synonymous with courage and Irish bravery and the symbolism will not be lost in your wedding. The bride can complete the picture with a traditional Irish wedding cloak, though a touch of modernity here and there will eliminate any outlook of drabness. Have the music laced with Irish influences too and if you can get someone to play bagpipes all the better. Irish music is tantalizing and stylish and you have to know the rhythm and the step when it comes to hitting the dance floor.

The wedding cake too should have that Irish touch with green as the dominant color and shamrock designs created by elaborate professional icing. You also need to know wedding gifts and favors that are common with Irish traditional weddings. A horse-shoe shaped gift is a definite yes as it traditionally denoted blessings and fertility. A bouquet of wild flowers might also catch your guests unawares in a pleasant manner.

The main thing to understand and put into account in culturally themed weddings is how to go about it. Read and research on it well in advance so that it turns as perfect as you envision it. But always choose the best of cultural aspects as some may be currently viewed as repugnant or extremely patriarchal and chauvinistic towards women.
