One of the most important tasks of a best man is the best man toast. Sure, a lot of people will be up there presenting speeches, but as the chosen one, you are responsible for saying something that is touching, memorable and moving. Scary stuff.

Fortunately, there are some things that can help you turn out the most amazing best man toast ever.

First of all, you will want to avoid drinking much before your toast. It's not cool to slur your speech and end up insulting the bride, her mother and everyone else involved in the wedding. So, have a glass of wine, but don't overdo things. You want to remember the moment, after all.

Include your memories of the groom. You have had unique experiences with this guy. Whether you are his brother, his college roomie or a more recently acquired pal, you have a history together. That means you are in a unique position to share things with the world. Just avoid anything that might be embarrassing, but pick anecdotes that will amuse or tickle people. For example, if you knew him in childhood, don't talk about his difficulty potty training . . . but do mention the time he climbed a tree to rescue a cat and got stuck himself!

Share your first impressions of the bride. Maybe you thought she was there to take over the world when you first met, or maybe you instantly knew she was the one for your friend. Either way, share how you first felt and how you felt now (keep this one positive!). For example, you might say you feared for your friendship at first, but now you know that she's no Yoko, or something to the effect and make even the bride chuckle at your best man toast.

Use a quote. One way to add a touch of something special to best man toasts is to quote someone else. This could be a famous poet, or even a favorite actor or movie character that your best friend loves. A simple, "I guess no one said it better than Jabba the Hut when he said . . . " will do the trick and add a little extra something to the toast.

Best man toasts don't need to be a stressful affair if you prepare for them. Whether this is your first time doing this, or your tenth, a little help never hurts! Check out other people's best man toasts to get an idea for what they are doing and use that as inspiration.
