How many guys break up with their girlfriend and after some time away end up saying down the line "I want my ex girlfriend back"? It's frustrating to hear this sometimes, because they're often many good reasons why the relationship didn't work out in the first place. The problem for a lot of guys is they simply want what they cannot have because it pains them to see their ex dating someone else. So when you're around these guys and you constantly have to listen to them saying "I want my ex girlfriend back", it becomes kind of irritating. Remind him of how she treated him:

Some guys get so blinded in their pursuit of their ex girlfriend they'll forget just how bad the ex-girlfriend may have treated them during the course of the relationship. Try to make your friend understand the ex-girlfriend just may not be any good for him. Sometimes your friend will get mad and tell you that you don't know what you're talking about, let him know that you observed him and his interaction with her throughout their relationship. Let him know that often times their interaction wasn't as pleasant as they may have liked the world to believe it was. If you can make your friend understand this without coming off as a jerk yourself, then maybe he may take a look at the relationship for himself and draw his own conclusion.

Let him know there are other fish in the sea:

This is probably one of the most effective ways to get your friend to stop saying "I want my ex girlfriend back". Let him know there are plenty of other girls out there who would love to have him as their boyfriend. Let your friend know he doesn't have to chase his ex-girlfriend around begging for a second chance. Now this won't be as easy to do as it might seem, but it can be done. The reason why it might be difficult is because your friend may just still be in love with the girl in question. If he still has strong feelings for her then he may take what you're saying as offensive and become very defensive with you in return. If this happens just back off a little bit and let your friend know you only have his best interest at heart.

No matter what you do, sometimes your friend just won't listen to what you're trying to tell him. If you feel like this is the case then it's best to let your friend just find out for himself.
