What is Cialis?
Cialis is one of the most popular prescription only, oral erectile dysfunction treatment medicines. Marketed by Lilly ICOS, LLC, Cialis was approved by the US FDA as a prescription only impotence treatment drug in 2003, five years after the mega launch of Viagra and a few months after the release of Levitra. Cialis helps men with erectile dysfunction to achieve firm and sustained erections sufficient enough to complete sexual intercourse simply buy taking the pill 30 minutes before anticipated sexual activity.
Cialis is currently the most prescribed male impotence treatment drug. The major factor behind the astounding popularity of Cialis is its fast acting and long lasting properties. Unlike Viagra and Levitra – the other two major impotence treatment drugs, Cialis only takes about 30 minutes to become effective in the body while Viagra and Levitra takes an hour to become effective. Further, while Viagra and Levitra remain effective in the body for just 4 hours, Cialis remains effective in the body for about 36 hours. How Cialis works?
The active ingredient in Cialis called Tadalafil belongs to the class of medicine called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. Since Viagra (sildenafil) and Levitra (vardenafil) also belong to the same class of medicines, the three drugs essentially work the same way.
In the normal course of events, when a man is sexually stimulated signals are transmitted from the nervous system which cause a release of chemical 'messenger' called cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). The cGMP causes the smooth blood vessels in the penis to become dilated so that more blood can rush into the penis, causing a man to achieve an erection. The function of cGMP is hindered by another chemical in the body called PDE5 in the body. Cialis tadalafil inhibits the PDE5 enzyme from breaking down the cGMP and helps a man to sustain a firm and prolonged erection.
It may be noted that Cialis helps a man to achieve firm erection only in response to sexual stimulation. Following sexual intercourse the erection should dissipate and the penis should return to its normal shape and size.
