Statistics show that there has been a significant increase in the amount of weddings held 'out of town' and the amount of weddings that have many guests who must travel a distance in order to be at their wedding. Once upon a time, before the information age, before the revolutionizing internet influence kicked in, before everybody became a world traveler, before people commuted weekly back and forth between New-York and LA, before time and space completely elapsed, people got married in their hometown, and most people didn't move around very much so there weren't many chances of acquiring long distance friends.

Wedding planning services always advise the following tip as the primary option for dealing with out of town guests. Reserve a chunk of rooms at a hotel that is near the wedding venue and tell your guests to stay there. The hotel will probably offer lower rates for your guests and they will appreciate the fact that the hotel's location is convenient and that the price is cheaper than it would have been. It would probably be harder for them to find an appropriate hotel by themselves.

If you're planning on a rehearsal dinner (Jews, skip this), you can invite your out of town guests to join you to show you appreciate the efforts they have made to come to your wedding. If it's not possible for you to invite your guests to dinner, you should try to spend quality time with them somehow, maybe go out with them for drinks or invite them over after dinner for dessert. As long as you give them extra attention at some point and express that they are special to you. Even spending one hour with them, just sitting and chatting, can make them feel appreciated and welcome. Either way, you should try to see them before the wedding and not in a rushed atmosphere with tons of other people around.

Basically, the key to making your out of town guests feel good is to help them with their planning and accommodations any way you can and send them a token of your appreciation. Finding the services that they need may also be helpful, if for example they need a babysitter or special care. Best yet, spend time with them just drinking or having dinner. Planning your own wedding is a huge job and takes up a lot of time and effort, the main key to being successful with all the wedding planning we've been discussing is to remember that there are plenty of individuals around you who are helping you and who are trying their best to make your wedding day special. As long as you don't become self centered and forget the love and beauty, you'll be fine.
