Groom Speeches for Weddings
Once you have gotten past the wedding invitations being sent out and the long awaited day is drawing near it is time for you as the groom to start getting your groom speech ready for the reception. While many people might think that standing at the altar waiting for your bride to come down the aisle is the hardest part of the day, for most guys it is the thought of having to stand up and give a speech at the reception that they dread the most. Wedding toasts can be the most difficult part of the day, when you come to think of it.
There are many different approaches to giving a speech in front of members of the wedding party, your family and your new wife's family and all of your friends. While some grooms may feel that they have to be very serious throughout, as a wedding is a very serious event in one's life, others tend to be more causal and go with funny groom speeches. A blend of both styles seems to be the most successful after all, while it is supposed to be a speech, it is not supposed to be a lecture and you do not want to put everyone to sleep.
You should start off by thanking your bride's parents for their daughters hand in marriage and if they have paid for the wedding reception you should thank them for that as well. While it is perfectly normal to add in a few simple one line jokes throughout your speech, here would be a perfect spot to say something along the lines of "Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Smith for the gift of your daughter, I shall certainly enjoy unwrapping your gift later tonight."
Another option that many of today's young couples are turning to is to give bride groom's speeches instead of having just the groom stand up and try to do it all by himself. In many cases this can work out very well as the pair can play off of each other and cover all of the bases much more quickly. The biggest problem most guys end up having is that their speeches are too long; a speech should be relatively short, after which the groom toasts his wife and the rest of the party.
When it comes to wedding toasts you will find that there are as many variations of these as there are popular wedding traditions and superstitions. But here is where all three tend to come together. It is important that the groom toasts his lovely new bride and thanks her for coming into his life, the tradition in many countries is for the bride and groom to link arms and drink the toast following which they smash the glasses to symbolize the end of the separate lives and the beginning of their new lives as one blended couple.
The one thing that every groom needs to remember about wedding toasts is that he needs to relax; no one is going to grade him on his performance. However if he relaxes mixes in a few simple jokes or anecdotes and lets everyone see that he is having a good time they are sure to remember the whole day
