Erectile dysfunction or male impotency is a persistent inability to attain and/or maintain an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual activity. There are various causes as to cause Erectile Dysfunction. The most common cause of erectile dysfunction is imperfect blood flow either into or out of the penis. Hardening of the arteries, for example, reduces blood flow into the penis at the time of stimulation.

Then there are psychological aspects of erectile dysfunction that can include marital (relationship) problems, depression and stress. A lack of sexual energy or ability in men or women could be caused by something as simple as stress or a medication one is taking, or as serious as an underlying condition like diabetes or high blood pressure. Stress is the biggest deterrent to sexual urge, among men who have passed the prime of youth. What you need to do is identify the cause of stress and figure out ways to cope with it. Diet also matters; a balanced diet helps control stress

Case studies show that stress leads to a lack of desire to perform. The resulting anxiety causes the release of adrenaline, which cuts off blood flow to the penis causing the loss of an erection.

Similarly, an imbalance of hormones such as testosterone or thyroid, can alter the body's response to sexual stimuli, usually inhibiting a response. Neurological disorders such as diabetes and stroke can also do nerve damage and affect the brain's ability to respond to sexual stimulation.

Other causes of erectile dysfunction include alcohol abuse, medication and high cholesterol levels in the blood.

More often than not impotency is a symptom or side effect of something else that can be quite serious, even life threatening in some cases, so the cause needs to be determined and corrected if possible. This obviously means you should consult an urologist if you are one experiencing erectile problems. There are many types of treatment available to help men with erectile dysfunction and their partners cope.

The most widely used and effective treatment for ED is oral medication. Various medications are available in market for treatment such as generic Viagra and its sister versions such as Kamagra and Penegra. These drugs are also available online these days. Consumers buy Generic Viagra over branded ones as they are cheap and contain the same active ingredients with same physiotherapeutic effect. These medications are composed of chemicals that act within the penis to make erections happen with appropriate sexual stimulation.
