5 Tips for Writing Federal Resumes That Get Results

Federal resumes are meant for applying for the top jobs in government positions. There are some basic tips for writing such resumes when you know that the position you have applied for is of relevance and will be scanned thoroughly rather than just read.

1.Information: provide information that shows that you’re capable of handling job pressures and have performed a leadership role in the previous organization(s) where you worked. 3.Format: This is one important area which the candidates often miss. Agreed that the relevant information is there on the resume but who will be interested to read it if it is in a haphazard manner? For example, the work and major achievements should be chronological order and so does your qualifications. Take the pains of formatting and re-formatting the resume before you forward it. If you know someone who worked for the government, the person would be able to show you the way out.

4.Covering letter: This has to be as formal as you can make it. The covering letter should clearly mention the post you’re applying for and more importantly – why you’re suited for this job? State your leadership abilities in short and make it crisp and impressive as much as you can.

5.Requirements: Finally understand the requirements before applying for the job. It would earn you negative cookie points if you could not comprehend what they were looking for and instead you presented your candidature. Remember that negative news travels faster than you think and will surely affect your current job.
