It doesn’t matter if you’ve been a best man for so many times now that you’ve lost count already or it’s your very first time, it’s still important that you make time to write your best man toast. You’ve been asked to be a best man in a wedding meaning that you’re important to the couple and that they want to share their married life with you. A best man is not just a chief attendant in the wedding; he’s more than just the man beside the groom. A best man is a confidant, a loyal friend, a kin that should always be there whenever the couple needs his help or advice or just to spend time together.
A best man toast, on the other hand, is the way for the best man to give thanks to the couple for choosing him. This is not something that the best man should literally verbalize. Instead, the best man toast should be way to tell the couple and the audience whatever wishes you have for the couple. It’s the perfect avenue to express your love and appreciation.
For those who are going to be best man in the near future, or even for those who are trying to familiarize themselves with the hoops of being a best man, here are some best man toast tips that you can put to use.
The best way to deliver your best man toast with ease is to manage your nerves. Yes, this is easier said than done but if you master calming your nerves, you’ll do fine… even better than fine. Just think that it’s a normal conversation, you just happen to have cameras focus on you and a microphone on hand.
Another way to make sure that you have a fantastic best man toast is to practice your speech. This is the "secret" of a successful toast, whether in a wedding or somewhere else. If you practice your speech, you’ll know how deliver each word and how to ask for response from the audience. Furthermore, you’ll feel confident if you already practiced and envisioned what you need to do during the program.
Length is very important in a best man toast. You don’t want the couple and the guests get bored with your toast. On the other hand, you also don’t want them to be caught off guard with your swift speech. This is your moment, truly, so make sure to say what you want in an eloquent and "normal" period of time. If you’re aiming for a short best man toast, a minimum of five sentences is appropriate. If you’re aiming for a longer best man toast, tell the guests beforehand so they won’t stand up yet and wait for you to finish your speech.
At the end of the day, or more aptly, at the end of a wedding, you should be proud of yourself for a job well done. And a job well done not only entails a great best man toast but a promise that you’ll truly be the best man for the couple.
Growing up, I was always known as the affluent speaker in my circle of friends. Everyone knows me as someone who can speak to anyone and make a fun and interesting conversation out of nowhere. That is probably why I am always being asked to give speeches with best man jokes, as well as, best man toast at weddings, graduations, and celebrations of other kinds. My specialty is weddings.
