Almost every woman experiences depression during her lifetime. Moreover more women than men experience depression, maybe due to hormones or other physiological or psychological differences.

What is depression?

Depression can be expressed as a sad mood, apathy, lack of desire to do something.

I heard that depressed women have sex more often. Maybe such women are trying to chase happiness that sex or attention can bring them. Many women loose interest in sex or other activities during depression.

Some women feel like they want to sleep more, or eat more, other women eat less and engage in dangerous activities.

Other causes of depression

Depression can occur during adolescence having body image issues. Very tall women or very overweight women could be depressed because they look so different.

If you are a tall woman, try to find a few positive things about your height or body and focus on them. Don't worry if you are taller than everybody else. If you are overweight woman, remember there are so many men who love big women, it will help you to love yourself more.

Loosing a loved one

Depression in women can occur due to loosing a loved one. Maybe you lost a friend or relative and you are going through a grieving process. Many of us get disappointed in friends sometimes. We have certain expectations about people, treat them well and something unexpected comes up that can break up friendship, bond that you had when you were happy. Dating experience can be frustrating for some women and men too. When you are looking for a person of your dreams and you meet people who lie and deceive it can be hard. Depression in single people can be quite high. It is hard to be happy when nothing goes the way you want. When we have certain expectations and nothing goes our way, women can get angry and depressed.

Loosing a job

Many women experience depression if they lost a job or finished college and couldn't find a job. When you are having certain expectations, hope for something that you think can make you happy and it never comes true it can be hard. So many women feeling depressed when they lost a job they loved. When a woman worked all her life, was proud of her job and felt good about herself, she can feel very depressed after a laid off.

Some women describe having depression when they are not happy in marriage. If a woman doesn't love or respect her husband she could be depressed. Some women become depressed if her husband lost job and can't provide for her anymore. We all feel as we deserve the best and we judge ourselves by what we have or what we do. Our self esteem often tied to the external events so much that it can easily to fall into deep depression.

What to do?

Be aware of your thoughts and feelings. Talk to someone and receive support. Read information about depression and be knowledgeable about your condition.
