Kundli, an Indian (vedic) astrological chart, plots the positions of 9 planets across a number of houses (representing the solar system) in a graphical representation. The position of the planets in a Kundli is based on the exact time of one's birth.

In Indian culture, it is widely believed and accepted that from these astrological charts the characteristics and traits of a person can be recognized and their fate is predicted. For this particular reason, kundli charts are used to decide whether a couple is suitable to tie the knot or not. In Indian matrimony, before a marriage proposal is made, kundli matching is done to identify whether the marriage will be successful or not.

Significance of kundli charts in Indian marriages and consequence of being manglik:

One can determine a number of factors from the charts, such as wealth, education, successfulness, and even children. However, Kundli can also be used to find out negative traits of individuals.

The Manglik Dosha is considered as the most infamous trait. This situation occurs as a result of the planet Mars falling in either the 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th houses on the Kundli chart. It is said that manglik people can cause a lot of tension, rage, argument, and violence by nature as Manglik Dosha is based on Mars, the planet of fire and heat. A marriage between a manglik and a non-manglik is not considered fortunate and it ultimately leads to the possible death of the spouse.

The marriage of Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan is the perfect example of a kundli matching and belief. The kundli charts of Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan did not gel well as Aishwarya Rai was a Manglik. However, to please both their love and the jyoshi's (astrologers), a marriage ceremony was performed between Aishwarya and a tree. It was believed that the tree would absorb Aishwarya's manglik fire, a sacrifice if you will.

Can a manglik marry non-manglik?

A manglik can definitely marry a non-manglik. This can be done by manglik wearing a coral. The coral absorbs aggression from the manglik. Other than that, rituals that help an individual in reducing the effects of manglik dosha (for example, Aishwarya & Abhishek) can be performed. And in other cases, kundli charts can help neutralize the effects of manglik. So, a non-manglik can marry a maglik but only after consulting an astrologer.

Interpretation of a Kundli:

A kundli chart should be truthful and consistent from all sources. Not only should the exact time and place of birth should be considered but other minor details should also match as wrong information can have a big impact on what the kundli says. For all those who are on the verge of getting married, a number of free Kundli charts services are now offered online.

The biggest challenge of Kundli matching is, of course, interpretation. In general, jyoshi's (vedic astrologers) can be used to provide an perfect interpretation. Sometimes it becomes a problem as different astrologers, usually, tell different things.
