Selecting the perfect career is a difficult job. And the most important skill is proper management. Yes, career management is the key of success. If you plan your career well and follow it by heart, it will become very easy to get your dream. Here are some useful tips for career management:

  1. Go to a career counselor to know your ability, interest and skill.

  2. Gather all career options in the field suggested to you by your career counselor. Know about the fee structure, entrance examinations, reputed institution, expected time and devotion etc.

  3. Decide short term goals and long term goals; restrict yourself to achieve those goals in decided span.

• Short term goals: targets achieved in shorter span are called short term goals. Such plans carry you towards your ultimate goal. You should be able to measure your progress by achieving those goals. Ex. Suppose you are seeking a career in journalism. As a student, you learn at college but your short time goal may be: completing a creative writing course within 10-12 months. Or: writing at LEAST 10 articles (published) for newspaper. Or: getting the first rank in your college. Remember, such short term goals only evoke your passion to achieve the ultimate goal.

• Long term goal: The plans for long time achievement are called long

term aims. These may consist of some achievements. E.g. completing

education with good standards in 3-5 years.

Getting job in a reputed institution or winning the competition in your

field.

• Ultimate goal: It should be a defined one. " Having low aim is a crime"

So, have an aim that remains larger than your life, which gives you an identity and self respect.

  1. After you decide all your goals and allot time span to achieve them, it is time to

arrange your daily /weekly time table: Have good quantity of daily study hours,

self allotted assignments, practicing hours. Have some time for your extra curricular activities like hobby class, sports. Keep some time for entertainment like watching TV, Going out for movies, playing, picnic, meeting your friends or relatives etc. After all, man is a social animal.

  1. Build good contacts in your field. Know the experts and consult them, befriend people sailing IN the same boat. It will help you to know where you are!

  2. Alternatively, have an optional career plan. It can give you a good change. It also can work as a stress buster. But always remember that your main goal is your first love.

  3. Do not dream of many careers at the same time. It will make you to carry the blame - "jack of all, expert of none." Be the "expert of one and Jack of some."

  4. If your career needs some sacrifices, then bind yourself to follow it. Like, sportsmen must follow early morning practice sessions, singers are restricted from eating icy and oily food, mathematicians needs hyper-concentrative study.

  5. Evaluate your performance every week; it will help you to increase your speed.

Adopt the changes to fix your mistakes.

Last and very important is: "Don’t quit." If failure frustrates you, then try to treat it in the same way. Know your limitations, try to overcome from them and move forward. Blind competition, burden of expectations, physical limitations are some barriers. So, find solutions to avoid them. Take care of your physical and mental health. This is your best investment.

So, be positive and succeed!
