Do you know what autocratic leadership is?

I had no idea what autocratic leadership was until I read about it. This type of leadership is all about one person controlling and making all decisions. This type of leader isn't open to anyone else's opinions. This only leaves room for one leader. I actually believe that every single person on the planet is a leader and I am about to share a tool with you that will prove this. I believe that a great leader understands what drives other people and helps inspire others to greatness. I learned this at an amazing coaching institute that has shaped my life.

How do I become a better leader?

It's time to understand what really drives people. A great coaching academy or coaching institute will teach this. All leaders understand what drives other people. They are great leaders, not because they are great people. They are great people, because they know how to lead. How do you get someone to do exactly what they want to do. Most people know what they want but they don't have the confidence to go get it. A great leader sees people for who they are and is able to inspire them to greatness. Here is the formula for understanding human behavior.

There are Five needs that all human beings have, just 5. Every single one of us has them. I call them the Five Fundamental and Fulfillment Needs:

The First Fundamental Need: SAFETY: Comfort, Food, Shelter, Clothing. We all have a need to remain comfortable. On of the hardest things for people is to step out of their comfort zones.

The Second Fundamental need: VARIETY: Fresh, New, and Exciting. At the same time that we want safety and comfort, if we were safe all the time we would be bored out of our minds. We want life to be fun and exciting, we NEED Variety.

The Third Fundamental Need: RESPECT: Appreciated, Important, Significant. We all want to feel appreciated and important, don't we?

The Fourth Fundamental Need: RELATIONSHIP: Love, Connection, Belonging. Every person has a need for relationship. Without relationship we would cease to exist.

The Fifth Need or The Fulfillment Need: LIFE'S PURPOSE: Growth, Realizing one's full potential, and Contribution. Every Person on the planet must grow and contribute. If we don't grow we die, and if we don't contribute, eventually we are eliminated. This is how nature works.

Once you understand these five needs, you can begin to understand how to influence another person's behavior. All of us have two needs that we value the most. While all five are driving our behavior on a daily basis, we have two that are doing most of the driving. Suppose you are a leader and you understand what someone's two driving needs are, then what would you do? It's simple, you would frame all your conversations in a way that helps this person meet their needs. The million dollar question before you do that is this: How do you determine what those two driving needs are in less than three minutes. It's simple. You ask two very basic questions that help you understand what your relationship believes about the world. What someone believes will determine how they go about meeting their needs. If the believe the world is a dangerous place, then most likely they will be driven primarily by the "SAFETY" Need. Is this starting to make sense? Now, here are the two questions for you to ask someone: What drives you? and What's Life about for you these days? This will give you enough information to understand where another person is coming from. Go ahead and try it on the next person you sit down with. Of course, you want to make it conversational.

Now, the best leaders, not only understand someones NEEDS, but they also understand how to help someone make a change in their life. Understanding the needs is the basis for change. If someone is stuck living in their SAFETY Zone, a great leader will help them get out of their comfort zone so they can begin to experience a little bit of VARIETY in their lives. The end goal is the fifth and final need of LIFE'S PURPOSE. Leaders take people to a place of growth and contribution. This is where all human beings are meant to live, but not everyone gets there. Now is you chance to lead yourself to greatness and to lead others. All in all, one leader or autocratic leadership is outdated. Be a leader now!
