The Italian language is also considered a romance language and approximately 85 million people speak this language. The Italian language structure and grammar is very similar to Latin. All of us have some Italian words in our vocabulary. Here are some examples; pizza, mozzarella, espresso, cappuccino, and pasta. If anyone wants to learn more about the Italian language, here are the basic topics that would be helpful.
First, know the Italian alphabet which is consisted of 21 letters only. The letters J, K, W, X, and Y are not included in the Italian alphabet but has found their way into modern Italian words. Next, is learn how to properly pronounce the Italian vowels, although they also use the A, E, I, O, and U, it is pronounced differently. A sounds like "ah", while E sounds like "eh", the I is pronounced as "ee", O sounds like "oh", and U is pronounced as "ooh" or as in "zoo".
Upon learning the alphabet, the next step would be to learn how to construct the basic Italian sentences. Their basic structure of the Italian sentence is subject-verb-object; it is the same as the structure of the English sentence. Learning the gender of words is also essential, and there are only two of them; feminine and masculine. Next, learn how to properly use the pronouns, regular and irregular verbs, the "you", and the present tense.
Learning the common greetings is crucial in every language. Anyone who wants to speak Italian should know how say "hello" and "goodbye". In Italian there is an informal way of saying those two words; ciao. The other greetings that one should include in his/her vocabulary are: buongiorno (good morning), buonasera (good afternoon/evening) and bounanotte (good night).
Learning how to speak numbers and telling the time also important. Learn the first set of numbers – one to ten – would get you a long way. Formulating higher numbers in Italian also follows a rule. The higher value number must be stated first before the lower value number. For example, 322 is stated as trecentoventidue. Knowing the days of the week is also crucial. Anyway, there are only seven days in a week, how hard can it be? Since Italy is in Europe, they use the metric system. Anybody who is not familiar with the metric system would find it difficult to express magnitudes of distances, land areas, or even temperature.
If anybody really likes to learn Italian, then nothing would beat the experience of going to Italy. Annually, there are many people who visit the Italian country side, mountains, and beaches. A tourist in Italy should also know how to ask directions. Learn how to turn left or right and understanding how many blocks to walk is necessary. Another important thing is to know how to speak in financial terms. Tourists sometimes have a hard time when they are changing their currency into the currency of the country they have visited. Then learn some lessons regarding getting around, dealing with various means of transportation and it will be a breeze.
