Before you get pregnant, you should see your doctor. This way your doctor can recommend safe practices for you to have while trying to conceive. They can recommend foods you should eat and things you should avoid. They can also let you know things that can make it harder to conceive.
Consult your physician, prior to planning travel during your pregnant months. Bring prenatal medical records with you, however, just in case anything should happen.
Pass off the cat litter cleaning duties to someone else once you have found out you are pregnant. Changing cat litter while pregnant can cause you to develop toxoplasmosis. While toxoplasmosis is generally mild to the mother, it can cause serious complications in the fetus. Be safe and just avoid it entirely.
Avoid using over the counter medicines for digestive issues like heartburn, upset stomach and constipation. The more medicines we keep out of our bodies during pregnancy the better. Ginger tea, acupuncture and peppermint oils have all been shown to help with pregnancy stomach issues.
When pregnant, avoid reclining after a meal. This can help your prevent heartburn. If you experience heartburn, you should sleep with your head elevated by pillows. Try to avoid foods that are spicy, acidic, or fried. These can be the main causes for heartburn during pregnancy. Those types of foods can also worsen your heartburn.
Don't drink alcohol while pregnant. Drinking any alcohol at all during pregnancy increases the risk of several birth defects and puts the baby at risk for fetal alcohol syndrome, which can cause mental retardation, loss of motor skills, and other problems. Consider drinking milk or tea instead if you are used to having a drink with dinner.
Make sure you know all of the signs of premature labor. You should seek as much information as possible. This keeps you adequately prepared and ensures you know when it is time to call the doctor should early labor occur.
Pregnant women can benefit by wearing sports bras. A sports bra offers additional support for your breasts which will alleviate some of the aches associated with pregnancy. You should also avoid tight underwear around the waist. If your underwear presses too tightly against your waist, it is not only uncomfortable for you, but can be dangerous for your baby, as he/she may not be able to get enough oxygen.
Read other peoples birth stories. This will let you see what it is really like, and you will be able to gain some inside tips that will help. People may write about what not to do, and you will benefit learning from their mistakes. You may also learn some positive things to do that you haven't thought of.
Stay away from anything that could harm you or your baby. This includes cigarettes, alcohol and even over-the-counter medications. Talk to your doctor about anything you are considering taking and let them advise you on the best course of action. All these substances could have a negative impact on your unborn child's development.
Rest and relaxation are especially important during pregnancy to make sure that your baby is not stressed while slowly growing and developing inside. Take time for a break every day with soft lights and music to sooth away the stress of your every day routine. Even just a few minutes can make a big difference.
Before getting pregnant, you should go to a doctor with your partner for a check-up. In some cases, medical history will dictate that certain tests should be run in order to protect the baby's health. Your doctor can also answer any questions about your future pregnancy.
When you are pregnant, you need to learn as much as you can about what to expect while you are pregnant and what things you can do to insure a healthy delivery. Many women just look at the information that is provided to them by their doctors. There is a lot of information that is available online and it is typically very easy to find.
Keep your calcium intake high during pregnancy. Your baby needs the calcium for its development. If you are not giving your body enough calcium, it will leech the calcium it needs from your bones. This will put you at risk for osteoporosis down the road. So make sure you drink that glass of milk in the mornings.
Make your dentist aware of your pregnancy. Some doctors don't allow their patients to undergo dental x-rays while pregnant. The health of your fetus is often more important than having annual x-rays. Some dental procedures are also frowned upon during some or all of your pregnancy. Telling your dentist you are pregnant helps to protect your baby, while still allowing you to take care of your own dental health.
Make your dentist aware of your pregnancy. X-rays and pregnancy don't usually work well together. Having an annual x-ray is not worth the risk to the fetus. You should also avoid teeth whitening treatments and not have your fillings removed. The healthiness of your baby can be helped along by your dentist as well.
