Listing titles is used to attract visitors to your auction through search or directory results.

Listing headlines is your most powerful tool as they can either rise interest and make people stay, and find out more or they can bore potential buyers and make them leave your auction.

Every time you create an new listing eBay asks you to enter the title for it. You have 55 characters including spaces. This isn't much space, DON'T WASTE IT!

When writing a title, take into your consideration the following:

*Use keywords. I cant stress enough how important this is! Most of ebayers(70%) go directly to the search box and enter the keywords for things they are looking for. So if you don't have proper keywords in your listings title. No one will find you unless they go through the category view.

This would be really stupid way of loosing sales!

eBay also offers an advanced search option, where users can choose to search by keyword and the auction titles, and by the descriptions. But the number of buyers who use this option is very small, so you should definitely use main keywords in your auction title.

Place keywords in a correct places!

Try to put an important keywords right at the beginning of your title so that the eBay search engine will show better results. You can incorporate two or more important keywords in one Title. Just remember to put the main keyword in front.

Lets take a closer view

You are selling a USB flash memory 4GB in size, manufactured by Toshiba. Most people will search for flesh memory, while some will look for USB memory, others will type in 4GB flash while others will look for specific brand like Toshiba, Memorex,Samsung and other brand names.

So you should effectively put as many keywords in your title as possible, keeping in mind it should sound logical, for example:

  • USB Flash Drive 4GB, cheaper than Samsung&Memorex

  • Toshiba portable 4GB USB flash- ON SALE!!!

  • Samsung type 4GB USB flash drive. The cheapest one of eBay!

By using different title variations you'll attract more visitors to your auctions, be creative and think "out of the box"

Do some research on what people are searching for, what titles do competitors use. Once you have 3 or 4 titles, test them to see which one will attract more visitors and which ones convert better. Eliminate the loosing titles and carry out with the winning ones.

There are many others things you should know about listing titles like these:

*How to properly use shortend

*Misspelling and spelling variations

I will not go to these details right now as this article is dedicated to auction listing design.

So lets continue with most overlooked auction design elements-Headlines.

Your headlines can be a powerful tool to make a visitors stay and read your items description. Even tho your auction headline is just a few lines of text, there is lots of choices out there.

Lets have a look at some elements you should avoid using in your headlines:

*Inappropriate Use of Font Style. This really drives me crazy, People please delete COMIC SANS font from your computer. DO you really think it looks cool? No, seriously, go to your font list and delete it!And how does it feel? Good doesn't it?

The choice of witch font you will use for your auction listing still lye's in your hands, but now you will learn how to do it in style.

First, it really isn't that easy to create outstanding headlines on eBay. The reason for this is very simple: If you use rare font, you risk that your visitor wont have that particular font style on their computer. As a result he will see some mystic hieroglyphs or in a better scenario - plain arial or times new roman. So the best option is to create your headline as a graphic file. As this everyone will see it no matter which fonts they have installed. To do this you need just basic graphic software, such as adobephotoshopelemetns.

It has to look good and attract attention. They should be easy to read and they connect with the product for sale. If you have headlines like these you are guaranteed to increase your visitors interest to your auction, which is exactly what headlines should do.

There is even more advantages using graphic files for headlines, making your auction looking in a unique way, instead of just plain text-and I want to teach you this knowledge. But it would require hundreds of paragraphs to cover it all!
