Transcendental Meditation was initiated by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi who was born and raised in India but now lives in the Netherlands. Transcendental Meditation is supposed to be different from all other forms of meditation since it aims to bring to the practitioner a new level of consciousness. It claims to do this through the chanting of a special mantra which every practitioner believes is exclusive to him. Ever since its introduction, more than 6 million people worldwide have become avid practitioners of transcendental meditation.

How is Transcendental Meditation different? Well, it aims to relieve stress, promote relaxation, enhance creativity and instill inner peace and happiness. However, Transcendental Meditation comes at a price. There is a fee for Transcendental Meditation training. But of course, this fee is a one time charge and can be financed.

Transcendental Meditation is a simple technique that has to be practiced 20 minutes twice a day. You have to keep your eyes shut while sitting in a comfortable position. This technique is simple to learn and requires very little effort or skill. However, it's not something you can learn through an audio tape, a video or a manual. It has to be taught by a teacher who has been certified by the Transcendental Meditation Program.

It is claimed that when you practice Transcendental Meditation, the body and the mind enter a particular state where you experience a kind of restful awareness. Researchers have studied the Transcendental Meditation technique and have shown that this state where the mind is calm and the body is peaceful taps hidden sources of creativity and improves learning ability.

Transcendental Meditation is said to affect both the mind and the body. The working of the brain becomes sound and disciplined and it enters a state of awakening. Repeated practice of this technique unleashes the brain's potential and develops it. The mind slowly becomes silent and aware while the body becomes restful and calm.

Transcendental Meditation is different from all other forms of meditation because it is claimed that the benefits are thousand fold. Some of the reasons why you might want to try out this technique are:

  • It's simple and hassle free and it takes only 20 minutes of your time.

  • Even if you don't believe in it initially, it is claimed that you'll become aware of changes for the better in the first few days itself and the positive effects continue to increase with regular practice.

  • It improves your memory, unleashes your creativity and develops your intellect.

  • It boosts your self-confidence and enables you to develop gratifying relationships with family and friends.

  • The benefits extend to your professional life where you can achieve success by accomplishing more with minimal effort.

  • It also has a positive effect on your health because the body becomes relaxed, you feel revitalized and it also decelerates the process of aging.

Most people who have practiced transcendental meditation swear by this technique. They claim that it rejuvenates them physically, sharpens the mind and hones innate talents and skills. Moreover, they claim that they are able to achieve a sense of balance between all aspects of their lives. Exhaustion miraculously vanishes over a period of time and makes way for more energy and enthusiasm in daily living.

Transcendental Meditation gained worldwide recognition and acceptance when celebrities like the Beatles and Mia Farrow used this technique to enrich their lives. Ever since, it has captured the interest of people all around the world. Even though it comes at a price, a large number of people across all ages and cultures are using it to perk up their lives. After all, if it is as good as it claims to be it is well worth a try to improve the quality of daily living.
