Living with anxiety is a tough problem to live with. Those that suffer from anxiety probably suffer from some type of depression or another psychological disorder. Patients that have anxiety may feel tense in social situations, hyperventilate, or even pass out due to stress. Anxiety typically causes huge spikes in adrenaline that make the body feel panicked. It is similar to a fear reaction.

Some examples of anxiety problems include:

• Inability to go into a public place due to fear. If the person does go into public they may sweat, shake, or take in deep breaths.

• Inability to drive. This doesn’t happen for everyone experiencing anxiety, but it can be a trigger. Those that are afraid of highways or driving may feel tense and even get a severely upset stomach.

• Being at a party or in a social situation can be difficult.

• Sudden triggers may appear from nowhere and lead to fainting or vomiting.

• Shaking while feeling a wave of anxiety is very common.

There are numerous medications that can treat this type of anxiety. Not all of them work well because everyone has different levels of severity. Clinical anxiety is not something that anyone should have to live with, because it can lead to a lonely and boring life. If you or someone you love experiences severe anxiety, then a medication designed to treat it may be best.

Lorazepam is the drug known as Ativan. This medication is available only by prescription, and can control a number of psychological conditions. It can act as a sedative, anticonvulsant, and muscle relaxer. Unfortunately, taking Ativan long term can lead to irreversible damage to the brain though it isn’t so severe that the person becomes disabled.

This medication has been used to treat anxiety for over 30 years. Today it is still prescribed, but with caution. It is addictive so if the individual has a highly addictive personality or traits, the doctor probably will not prescribe it to him. Getting a prescription for Ativan is considerably difficult, but with reason. If you do experience severe anxiety it is best to talk with a doctor about your problems to determine if this medication is right for you.

This medication should be avoided by those with allergies to Lorazepam and any other benzodiazepine medication. Taking this despite allergies can cause many dangerous side effects – even death. You should not take this if you have experienced respiratory failure in the past. Acutely intoxicated patients should also avoid this medication. If you frequently take drugs and alcohol this medication can be very problematic and lead to severe damages in the body. Ativan can also cause problems for unborn babies, so pregnant or breast feeding women should always avoid this medication.

Using Ativan as part of a treatment for anxiety can be life changing and an excellent way to gain control of your life once again!
