The words 'mental depression' have scared the daylights out of people for ages. Any time mental illness is discussed it carries the stigma of insanity. This is of course untrue. Although mental depression is a real medical condition it isn't insanity in the classic, negative sense. You have to free yourself from the age-old stereotype that has been associated with mental illness since the beginning of time. Mental depression is a disease that can be treated and doesn't mean the afflicted is less than others.

This year 15 million people will be affected by mental depression. But 2/3 of those never seek medical attention because of their fear. The primary issue should be health. Wishing away mental depression doesn't work. The illness demands attention. It affects anyone without warning. Race and faith don't matter. Money means nothing to it. It does not care if you are young or old. This disease has no boundaries. As with any disease early detection is beneficial to treatment. But the signs of mental depression aren't easy to spot. People are down now and then. Mental depression is not a temporary affliction.

There are a variety of symptoms that may indicate mental depression. Those that are suffering may tend to become loners. They may not find any enjoyment in activities that once comforted them. Sleeplessness and insomnia are common. Changes in diet may happen. Dealing with others becomes a chore. They can suffer many bouts of hopelessness and helplessness. Emotional and physical state will show signs of decay. The signs of mental depression may not be apparent to those who suffer it, so others have to point out the signs.

Depression is caused by a variety of possibilities. Stress is a major cause. Many things cause stress. Relationships, school and even providing for family can all cause stress. The death of someone close can create stress. It is also believed that mental depression is passed on through the genes. There are many possible causes of depression. But many possibilities exist for treatment. One typical treatment revolves around 'talk therapy'. This allows those that suffer to talk out their problems and look for positive reinforcement. Prescription drugs and natural herbs can also work. Mental depression is a disease that can be cured if treated.
