Mercury & Anxiety Connection

If you have amalgam dental fillings, you have much higher levels of depression, excessive anger, and anxiety than people without them.

There is a growing belief that dentistry may be unknowingly "treating" the increasingly disturbing problem of depression, anxiety, anger, violence, alcoholism, smoking, and other harmful and addictive disorders and bad habits.

Serotonin is your brain's master impulse modulator for all of your emotions and drives. It is responsible for keeping you emotionally aligned.

When your serotonin levels fall, violent behavior tends to rise. Think of all the prison inmates for example.

Normal aggression has a barometer, like body temperature, which is regulated by brain chemicals.

Most people are born with a balance of these chemicals that allows them to react to events in rational ways. If you change your barometer, it can increase or lower depression, anger, anxiety or violence. Your barometer can be tweaked and the method for change, and imbalance of neurotransmitters, can be influenced to increase or decrease violent behavior.

While low serotonin levels increase your odds of impulsiveness, normal levels are associated with clear, logical thoughts and social accomplishment. One reason we may calm down with age is that your serotonin levels increase over time.

A low serotonin level also can drain all of your life's happiness, killing a person's interest in everything and increasing the threat of depression and suicide.

Low levels of serotonin are caught up in the kind of conduct that typically appears as irritability, loss of temper and explosive rage. It is the type of reckless aggression that is rising at a record pace in America.

In addition, alcoholism, sleeplessness, sexual deviance, pyromania, obesity and other impulsive disorders also are common side effects of low serotonin.

Alcohol at first raises serotonin levels so that a person feels mellower for a brief time; however, continued drinking rapidly drops your serotonin levels. Exposure to mercury from amalgams may be linked to alcoholism, which may be the reason why some people have a lowered craving to drink after amalgam removal.

Dental amalgams and smoking raise the levels of dopamine, serotonin, acetylcholine, epinephrine and norepinephrine...which have calms the brain. Mercury reduces the function of neurotransmitters; and people will tend to smoke more to ease their anxious feelings.

Mercury from amalgam dental fillings has the ability to decrease the job of serotonin and other neurotransmitters.
