Some ideas are better than others, sure, but in the end, everybody has a great idea or two. Coming up with a great idea is simply a matter of common sense, really. As they say, necessity is the mother of invention, so all it really takes to come up with a great idea is the ability to see a need and imagine how to fill it.

So, if you stop a random passerby on the street and ask them for the best idea they ever had, they’ll likely explain the plot to some summer blockbuster movie they’ve cooked up, or they’ll describe how the miracle-toothbrush would work, and chances are… you’ll agree that it’s not a bad idea at all.

So with all these great ideas floating around, why isn’t everyone a big shot movie producer or a famous inventor by now?

Well, the truth is that, in the long run, ideas alone don’t go very far on their own, no matter how great they are. Great ideas are, to be blunt, free. And since they’re free, everybody has one.

It takes two things to get a great idea off the ground: Resources and technical ability.

A movie producer needs to gather a budget and hire a director to put his great movie idea into production, and an inventor needs a team of qualified experts and, hopefully, some grant money to stock his workshop.

What we’re driving at is this; no matter what line of work you’re in, nobody really does it all alone when putting their great ideas into action. Anybody who is seeking to produce professional quality results in any industry is going to hire a professional quality team to offer their assistance and knowledge to the project.

Not only is this true of an AV presentation, it’s especially true of AV production for two basic reasons. First, creating an AV production requires a vast array of skills and abilities, from photography to sound work to editing to image manipulation and graphic arts. And second, even if you have the time to develop all of these crafts, it is, nonetheless, difficult for an individual to do alone.

Now, what you do have is professional knowledge of your own industry, and, hopefully, a passion for it as well. That is where great ideas truly come from. If you’re also a great communicator, then that helps, too. No matter how skilled an AV company might be, it’s hard for even a great AV crew to make something excellent out of a weak idea.

In other words, what you have is exactly what your AV crew will need to produce an excellent presentation, and what they have in terms of technical ability and knowledge is exactly what you need to make a great presentation, likewise. Therefore, it really needs to be a collaborative effort between yourself and your audio visual team, because in order for your crew to create a great presentation, they need you just as much as you need them: You provide the concept, they provide their ability to bring it to life.
