Your company's mission statement may have taken weeks or months of contemplation. But all too often after the statement is written, it becomes nothing more than a collection of empty sentences. Profitable companies work with motivational speakers to give their mission statements real meaning and impact on company performance.
Write a Real Mission Statement
Too many mission statements are collections of aphorisms, politically correct language and meaningless affirmations. Once you strip away the corporate-speak, does you mission statement say anything at all?
Take time to consider what the actual values of your company are. Don't think about your image or what the stockholders want. Ask what the company truly represents and what its goals should be. If those values are not clearly and concretely placed in the mission statement, then the statement has failed.
A valid mission statement provides direction to the actions of everyone in the company, from minimum wage line workers to top executives. It should inspire creativity, loyalty and commitment to the organization's goals. The focus should be on what it says not how it looks.
Communicate Your Mission to Others
A well-written mission statement is a powerful motivator but it can't exist on its own. It needs something more than to be written on a plaque hung in the company break room. The message must be carried to the rest of the company and motivational speakers are valuable tools for that purpose.
Motivational speakers infuse your company's mission with enthusiasm. They communicate not just the words but the meaning behind these few sentences which represent your company. They emphasize the values these statements represent, putting the words in context with daily company operations. Employees can relate to the organization's goals more easily when presented by motivational speakers than when simply read on paper.
Employees aren't your only target. Customers, stockholders, business partners and others can be included. They see your company is more than a house of cards. It is a solid organization with sound values and operating principles.
Reinforce the Message
Too many mission statements grow stale. After they are trotted out for initial viewing, they are put away where they gather dust. Everyone should be reminded of the company's goals on a regular basis. It provides a sanity check so the staff can evaluate if they are on track toward the company's objectives.
Many successful organizations use motivational speakers to reaffirm the company's mission statement at annual meetings. It is an opportunity to address the organization as a whole and get everyone back on the same page. However these larger events need to be supplemented by regular reminders to reinforce the mission in the minds of executives and workers alike.
A meaningful mission statement backed by the enthusiasm and stirring presentations of skilled motivational speakers will have a profound positive effect on your company's future.
