I have pondered about this subject, and as always my gears started turning again. I do know it is a very difficult subject to talk about. For generations of time, we men have been instructed to be different than women, in the sense of showing their masculinity at all times. Men are supposed to be strong, and not show their emotions. As we go along in life, hopefully we become wiser, and realize that men are humans like women. Thus, the question lies in front of us, is it okay for men to cry? How would we answer this question? Is it easy or hard to answer?

We as humans are the most sensitive beings in the world. We need to understand that as men we too feel happiness and sadness, we reason and think, and show many other feelings that show we are human. Therefore, what makes us different? is it the teaching of the world? Or our parents teachings when we were growing up? Well let me tell you, as a father and grandfather, I do disagree with the world. When I had my first child in my arms, I did weep. When I had my second son, I wept again. I felt a knot in my throat each time, and my soul was very happy, my emotions were very high.

As my children were growing up, my younger son was very sick; often times he got very sick and we ran him to the hospital many times. As time went by, something else happened that shook my body and soul; as parents we know the process of life in one way, that is that we grow old and die, and then so do our children, or so we assume. He got awfully sick after that, to the point that he was near to die. I as his father felt powerless, things were not going the way I thought they should, my son was not supposed to die. He passed away on a very beautiful day. The Lord knew that he was tired; as a result he took my son back home. And I came to realize, that he went to a better place. I as a father needed to put my son to rest. This was one the saddest times of my life.

My older son grew up to be a very tall and strong boy; a few years ago he graduated from the university. I felt very good about that, to see my older son walk down the aisle to get his diploma. And yes, I wept because of joy seeing him happy and ready to face the world. Those emotions are very real, and we men feel the emotions of happiness, or the sadness. I know these are real and normal, because I had felt them both deeply.

Consequently, I ask the question again; is it okay for men to cry? Ladies and gentlemen let me tell you, crying is one of the most wonderful and natural ways to show our feelings and emotions. We as men should not, and must not negate these feelings. It is wrong to do so, it is not right, and to top it off it is not good for our emotional and physical health. When my younger granddaughter was born, I held her in my arms and thought, what a precious angel, and I felt the familiar knot in my throat then too. These are wonderful feelings of emotion. It was such a great happiness and joy, to see a new soul here in the world bringing happiness to the entire family.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am very blessed to have my family and those around me. I hope that I was able to help you realize, that by showing your emotions it is natural, beautiful, and healthy. I hope also that you see in life that we face many adversities, and we need to be strong and persevere until the end. I believe that we need to be tender and open with our feelings.
